The Aries is one of the 17 new gigantic vessels of COSCO SHIPPING Lines. This megamax vessel is one of the largest in the world and has a capacity of 20,000+ TEU. On the 19th of January, the COSCO SHIPPING Aries started her maiden voyage. The ship, with its 400 meters long and 23 rows wide, has as home port Hong Kong. From Shanghai, via Ningbo and Singapore, this megamax sailed to Piraeus, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp.

First megamax for AG

On the 26th of February, the COSCO SHIPPING Aries docked at 21h45 on Antwerp Gateway and will stayed until noon on Wednesday the 28th. With the arrival of our 2 new Liebherr cranes in January 2018, DP World Antwerp is ready to receive these gigantic ships. The new cranes have a lifting height of 52 meters and can handle up to 25 rows wide. This ensures that our terminal is ready to receive ships of more than 20,000 TEU. Five other cranes on AG have already been prepared to handle vessels up to 23 rows, and in 2018 a sixth crane with 7 meters will be increased. The total capacity of Antwerp Gateway is 2,800,000 TEU.

On the 12th of March, a 2nd megamax will be handled at Antwerp Gateway; the COSCO SHIPPING Taurus of more than 20,000 TEU.
